I teach computational methods for neutral-particle (neutrons and gammas) radiation transport. This textbook appeared just after I did my Ph.D. dissertation in this area. I have taught from it since 1987. The "second edition" is not really a new revision; it does correct some typos in the original book. This art has advanced in many ways since then. However, this book explains the various approaches that are used, and is a must-read before trying to read the journal literature. It is also an indispensible reference. Each chapter has an extensive list of literature upon which it is based, including some of the earliest publications. A suggestion for those studying the material on angular discretizations for the discrete ordinates method: get a Lenart Sphere. This is a transparent hard plastic sphere with transparent hemispherical overlays. It comes with a compass for small-circle arcs, a protractor, and a tool for drawing great circle arcs, measuring arc lengths, and drawing great-circle ars at right angles to each other. Visualization in 3d is really valuable.

It was only by happenstance that I finished this book on the anniversary date of the disappearance of Malaysian Airlines Flight 370. Like many throughout the world, I tried to understand just how something so seemingly impossible could happen: the complete and utter disappearance of a jumbo jet when, as the authors point out, there is virtually nothing on the planet that gives off any kind of electronic or energy ‘signature’ that can’t be found, down to the battery of a wristwatch worn by someone in a remote forest.Richard Belzer, George Noory and David Wayne have not written the first book dealing with this very strange tragedy, but they may have written the best analysis of what is known, what has been kept from the public, what has been either mishandled or purposely subverted, what role the mainstream and alternative media have played and the chilling implications of the event.Well written and researched (as far as possible), the authors do an excellent job in tackling the various theories established so far and in providing a succinct summary of these theories (nine in all), as well as establishing which of them can easily be dismissed and which not so easily.I won’t go into any detail; people need to read it and think about it themselves. I know that having read this and considering both the most likely causes I take from the book, as well as the highly disturbing implications of those most plausible causes, things seem a bit darker now. Great Read! Richard Belzer -and other writers on this project- did an excellent job presenting multiple "theories" about the missing Malaysian Airlines flight 370. Right from the start of reporting that a plane "went missing" in this part of the world I became suspicious about the entire incident; with today's advanced radar technology, etc. I knew that something nefarious -at the least just simply odd- was in the making. Without giving away any additional information that the writers present in this book- I do not want to steal any future reader's experience-I will end my remarks by commenting that I have been left with a sad and angry opinion about "the powers that be." After perusing the book's conclusions and end notesI highlighted multiple items to be further researched and considered; I also said a silent prayer for the families and friends of each of those 239 people on board the ill-fated flight 370. I am left with the certainty that, "Someone is hiding something."

I read this book as one with very little knowledge about the disappearance of flight MH370. It was an eye-opener and explained things in a manner that the layman could understand.Although the authors present many facts (and a chapter is devoted to each of the main theories about the plane's disappearance), what the authors do not do is advance one theory in particular as the answer. In other words, they allow the reader to draw whatever conclusions the reader wishes.My only complaint is that the book tends to repeat itself numerous times. I found myself on occasion thinking, "I get it already. This was said several times before."Aside form that though, I'd recommend this for anyone who is looking for a primer on the subject without the spin.

This was a good book for both facts and perspective.

I have been waiting anxiously for the delivery of this book. I also follow French Country Cottage/Courtney on Pinterest. This book is beautiful. Even if French Country is not your style, the pictures are breathtaking. I love that Courtney not only included pictures of her home, and the holidays, glimpses of her gardens, and her story. I HIGHLY recommend this book, and I will enjoy reading it again and again. Great inspiration to incorporate some patina into my own home. GREAT job Courtney!! I hope there will be another book in the future.

This book is beautiful. Every page has beautiful pictures. She loves flowers and so do I. It Inspired me to buy and pick more flowers for my house. They add so much color and beauty to a house. Every room is so comfortable and welcoming. I love all the chandeliers too. This book is my style of decorating so I enjoyed it very much.

She has always inspired me with how she decorates and how good she puts everything together so well. This book and every page in it proves just how talented she is. This book is already teaching me more and giving me more information on how to decorate more and a better way to do it. Courtney to me takes the best Photos and in this book of hers proves it. I only can dream that one day I can take photos like she does. She is the sweetest and kindest person ever. I never have had the pleasure of meeting her but now that I have her book, I feel like I have have known her my whole life. I hope to meet her one day. This is a book to be enjoyed for its beauty, and for the enthusiasm exuded through its text. It is delightfully written, as Courtney takes you through the key moments of her childhood where her love of flowers, the imperfections found in time-worn objects, and dream-inspiring home interiors (and secret gardens) were born. She also speaks lovingly about the cottage home she and her husband purchased in California while their children were still young, and how they put their mark on it over time and how it came to be so much more than a home.And all the while, on every page, those swoon-worthy photographs that I look forward to on her blog. And I think that’s what I love most about this book – I do enjoy the blog, but it is so hard to get lost in it because like any blog, you have to keep clicking from post to post and it just breaks up the experience into small chunks. But the book – oh the book is one to simply page through slowly, like taking a tour through the house and taking note of all the beautiful details, while understanding at last how it all fits together.I can’t think of any other home style book quite like French Country Cottage – for the reader it is an experience to savor. And for the author, truly a labor of love and a long-held dream come true!

I preordered this book and couldn’t wait for it to arrive. It came this week, and did not disappoint. Ah, the pictures, and such careful detailed staging for each shot. They are effortlessly beautiful, natural, and mesmerizing. I follow Courtney’s blog, and after drooling over each picture, I will read her story and again enjoy these photos. To me, this book is like a great dessert after a fine meal....you don’t want to get to the last bite. Great job, Courtney! Love it! And, worth the wait!

To be clear, the house is stunning. It's a beautiful mix of old and new and the color palette is soft, subtle, and serene. There are flowers on about 99% of the pages. Some pages are just an entire close-up of a floral arrangement. Granted, it's eye candy, but the amount of repetition is not incredibly creative. Unless you have an enormous budget or access to an elaborate garden, no one can pull this off.

I loved the photos and descriptions....it is a wonderful book and truly inspired me.....in fact, I started working on my own house...painter is on the way....and though I won't be painting things white....the book inspired me to move things around, and look at things just a bit differently....thank you for the book!!

OH MY GOSH!!! I'm positively in love with my book!!!! It arrived in record time today and just the first few pictures have me in awe! I'm going to enjoy devouring every single page of this beauty!!!! I'm so happy I ordered it!!!
