The cover of this book does not do it justice. At first glance it looks like a dry non-fiction book you will find in most children's school libraries. (Sorry, but those books are out there) However, I was pleasantly surprised to find engaging illustrations, photographs of real artifacts, and interesting facts. I know that my children will LOVE this book as we study the Middle Ages this coming year.
We ordered this for my daughter's report on Fashion of the Middle Ages. It was just what we needed. small interesting blurbs about fashion practices for men, women, and children from different classes and occupations. Even some unusual things to make the report interesting. Multiple pictures on each page.
I used this series of books for a quick and easy reference guide in case there was a little detail I couldn't remember or wasn't sure about. These do the trick!
While this was a gift, I am interested in the same subject. I chose it because of the wonderful painting illustration on the cover of the wealthier population and expected more of the same on the inside. What is actually on the inside are characature-like illustrations culled from the same period that are nothing like the cover, are VERY small and depict the more common life (dull) clothing of the era.
I am a beginner costumer and thought this might be a good reference book. While it has some good pictures it is mainly formatted for the school aged crowd in my opinion. Some good information on medieval life and nice color pictures of clothing.
I needed better images and more details. This would be a great basic book but I needed more of reference material. Also my fault for not checking how many pages the book had.
I was very disappointed when I got it. this book is for children and the author or Amazon should say so. It was not worth what I paid for it.
